The File That Was Closed
Between 2014 and 2015, three women reported alleged rape and sexual assault to Hertfordshire Constabulary. Officers investigated for four years. In 2019 the case was closed, the Crown Prosecution Service having brought no charges. No charge was brought, so no court ever heard the allegations either way. Everything in the five chapters below happened while that 2019 decision stood. The separate Bedfordshire investigation that produced the current 59 charges concerns different complainants.

Three women report alleged rape and sexual assault to Hertfordshire Constabulary. A police investigation opens and runs for four years. The separate Bedfordshire investigation, which produced the current charges, concerns different complainants.

After a four-year investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service concludes the case and brings no charges. The file is closed. It will sit closed for seven years.

Removed Before Charged
In August 2022 Meta permanently banned Andrew Tate from Facebook and Instagram. He had 4.7 million followers on Instagram alone. TikTok and YouTube followed within days. At that point no charge had been brought against him anywhere in the world. Three months later Elon Musk restored a wave of suspended accounts including his, and the other platforms did not follow. In August 2025 the brothers sued Meta and TikTok over the removals. In April 2026 a federal judge in California dismissed the claim against Meta, holding it barred by Section 230.

Meta permanently bans Andrew Tate from Facebook and Instagram. He had 4.7 million followers on Instagram alone. TikTok and YouTube follow within days. He keeps posting on other platforms, so this was not a removal from the internet, but it was a removal from the places most people were. No charge had been brought against him anywhere in the world.

Romania, And No Trial
On 29 December 2022 both brothers were arrested in Bucharest alongside two Romanian women, Georgiana-Manuela Naghel and Alexandra-Luana Radu, on suspicion of forming an organised criminal group, human trafficking and rape. All four deny the allegations and have maintained their innocence throughout. They spent three months in a Romanian jail on rolling thirty-day extensions, then months under house arrest. Roughly four million dollars of cars, watches and cash was seized, and appeals to recover it were refused. In August 2024 a second investigation opened alongside the first. In December 2024 the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled the indictment defective and handed the file back to prosecutors.

A Romanian court finds the indictment defective and refuses to send it to trial#
The Bucharest Court of Appeal rules the case cannot proceed and hands the file back to DIICOT, citing irregularities in the indictment. Two years after the arrests, the prosecution has still not produced a case a court will accept.

The File Reopens
In February 2025 a Romanian court lifted the travel ban and the brothers flew to Florida. Judicial control measures stayed in force and the Romanian charges were not dropped. Three months later the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed it had authorised charges in Britain and would seek extradition once Romania was done. In March 2026 Hertfordshire Constabulary announced it was reopening the investigation closed in 2019, a day after the police watchdog said a former detective constable could face gross misconduct proceedings over alleged failures to properly investigate it. In July 2026 Romania expanded its own case again, adding money laundering and complicity in trafficking of minors, with the original file still never having reached trial. Running alongside all of it is a civil claim in the High Court by four women granted anonymity, which Andrew Tate's written defence says is false and which he intends to contest in person. He also asked a judge to make prosecutors name the criminal complainants before extradition, arguing he cannot prepare a defence against accusers he cannot identify, and was refused.
The 2019 file live again, a second Romanian file still growing, and both brothers standing on US soil when Britain asked for them.

Travel restrictions lifted, the brothers fly to Florida#
A Romanian court lifts the travel ban and the brothers leave for the United States. The Financial Times had reported days earlier that the US administration raised the restrictions with Romanian counterparts, including by special envoy Richard Grenell at the Munich Security Conference. Judicial control measures remain in force and the charges are not dropped.

Four women bring a civil claim in the High Court#
Four claimants, granted anonymity by the court, allege physical or sexual violence between 2013 and 2015. Two say they were in a relationship with Andrew Tate; two worked for his webcam business. Their filings allege that one was threatened with a gun and that another was strangled until she lost consciousness. Tate denies all of it: his written defence states that the claims are false and that all sexual activity was consensual, and his counsel says he intends to give evidence himself. Their lawyers say it is the first civil case in Britain to put coercive control before the High Court. Damages are expected to reach six figures. The trial was later brought forward to 22 June 2026, and this site has not established what has happened since that date.

Hertfordshire police reopen the investigation closed in 2019#
Hertfordshire Constabulary announces it will reinvestigate the rape and sexual assault allegations reported to it between 2014 and 2015, closed in 2019 after the CPS did not charge. The announcement comes a day after the Independent Office for Police Conduct said a former detective constable could face gross misconduct proceedings over alleged failures to properly investigate the case. The three complainants said in a joint statement that the reopening was long overdue.

A judge refuses to make prosecutors name the complainants before extradition#
The brothers ask the High Court to force the CPS to disclose the identities of the women accusing them, arguing that they cannot gather evidence or prepare a defence against accusers they cannot name, and that the refusal breaches their right to a fair trial. They offer court-backed undertakings and financial security in exchange. Mr Justice Chamberlain refuses permission, finding the CPS decision "coherent and rational" and that prosecutors had reason to protect the complainants from harm given the brothers' reach on social media. The names stay sealed until extradition.

Romania expands the case again#
DIICOT adds money laundering, influencing statements, removal from seizure and complicity in trafficking of minors. Seizure is placed on five more vehicles. The original file has still never reached trial.

On 18 July 2026 US Marshals detained both brothers in Florida at the request of the United Kingdom. The warrant was sealed, and their lawyer notes the arrest came shortly after meetings in Washington DC. Two days later the CPS and Bedfordshire Police confirmed 59 charges across the two of them, 42 against Andrew and 17 against Tristan, involving seven complainants. Their counsel states both men are innocent and will contest extradition. Andrew Tate says he is being held in solitary confinement at FDC Miami with no calls, no visits and almost no time out of the cell. He is a pre-trial detainee, and he has been convicted of nothing.

Andrew Tate says he is being held in solitary confinement at FDC Miami with no calls, no visits, no commissary and almost no time out of the cell. In a post from his seventh day in the unit he says he was allowed his one hour of exercise twice. His counsel describes a five by twelve foot cell. The Bureau of Prisons declined to confirm the placement, citing privacy, safety and security. He is a pre-trial detainee contesting extradition. He has been convicted of nothing.

US Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis sets a hearing to decide whether the brothers are released during what could be a months-long extradition process. Their lawyers argue they are not a flight risk, having attended every hearing in Romania for over three years. They stay in custody until then.

This is the only entry on this page that has not happened.

The point is not that any single restriction was wrong on its own. It is that they have run end to end, for years, without the trial that is supposed to justify them.
The Rules It Follows
- Mainstream reporting or an official source: the CPS, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Police, DIICOT, the Bureau of Prisons. The links sit on the entry itself and are always visible. Nothing is behind a click.
- They restate what the entries beneath them already source. Where an opener claims something no entry below it carries, it links out itself. If an opener and an entry ever disagree, the entry is the checked one.
- Every interval on the rail is computed from the dates, never typed. Where reporting gives only a month or only a year, no exact day count is printed across it. 5 of the 20 entries are affected, and each says so under its date.
- Account removals appear in the record but never in the charts. Taking down an account is not a legal process and should not be drawn beside two prosecutions as though it were one.
What this page is not
This campaign argues about process. It does not say any complainant is lying, and no entry above claims that.
Allegations of sexual violence deserve serious investigation. So does the fairness of the machinery used to investigate them. Those two things are not in tension, and a record that only reported one of them would not be worth reading.
Where the Bureau of Prisons contests a claim, the contest sits next to the claim. Where something is an assertion by one side, the entry names the side asserting it.
